On your bikes New Zealand it’s ‘Go By Bike Day’

3 February 2009

All over New Zealand people are being encouraged to ride their bike to work on Wednesday 18th of February. Hundreds of New Zealanders are expected to set aside their regular means of transport and head to work in eco-friendly, self-powered style.  You can meet up with local colleagues and friends at over 50 events throughout New Zealand and enjoy a free breakfast together - it’s a great way to start the day!

Events are co-ordinated by local and regional councils, sports trusts, cycle groups and other organisations with an interest in cycling. Some zany events are scheduled, including cycling with a Mayor, or finding a new sense of liberation with ‘fancy frocks on bikes’ - and there are plenty of prizes to be won!

Go By Bike Day is part of the Bikewise month in February 2009. Events taking place around the country include BMX races in Kawerau, a Cycle Safe Program in Tauranga, a Bike Checks Cyclist Training Workshop in Invercargill and more.  To find out what is happening near you, take a look at the Bikewise website.
