Recycling your mobile phone benefits the Starship Children's Hospital

10 March 2009

Old mobile phones are pouring into the Starship Foundation from all over the country for recycling. The Starship Foundation has partnered up with Folamh, an Irish recycling company, to swap the phones for cash and raise money for medical equipment at the Starship Hospital. An incredible 5,000 phones have been received by the Starship Foundation in the last week!

It is estimated that more than three million people in New Zealand have a mobile phone and that on average they upgrade them once every 18 months. This means there may be two million phones becoming obsolete each year. By sending redundant phones freepost to ‘Starship Mobile Phone Recycling Appeal’ New Zealanders are supporting the children’s hospital and reducing landfill.

Phones of any model and in any condition are being received. Freepost appeal envelopes are available at your nearest ASB Bank branch and selected Telecom stores or can be downloaded from www.starship.org.nz/phone
