The Green Machine

25 March 2009

The green machine is now hitting Marton streets in style. This electrically powered vehicle has travelled 600km on trips around town over approximately three months.  The cost - just $2.50 in electricity.

Local designer, Pat Boyle, was inspired to create the ‘green machine’ after buying an electric tri-shaw off Trade-me. Mr Boyle found the performance of the original tri-shaw disappointing and spent a number of months developing it into the ‘green machine’.

The versatility and efficiency of the green machine came as a surprise to Boyle, who found that he could travel 40-100km on a single electrical charge of the machine. Mr Boyle uses his current green machine for all sorts of round-the-town trips; grocery shopping; dropping his daughter at school; and trips to the farm supplies store are some of his uses.

At the current rate Mr Boyle estimates he will do all his round the town journeys for just $10 a year.
