There is such thing as a free lunch in Canterbury on World Environment Day!

5 June 2008

Canterburians were rewarded for taking public transport, and saying no to plastic bags with a free lunch on World Environment Day yesterday. Environment Canterbury, Ministry for the Environment and volunteer staff handed out lunch vouchers and free metro cards (to be used on public transport) at busy hubs around Christchurch from 7.00am yesterday. Commuters and shoppers were delighted at their free lunch. One couple, seen using reusable shopping bags at the local Pak’n’Save, said that they would use the vouchers for to treat their five children to lunch at subway on the weekend.

Car parking buildings and petrol stations were also targeted with drivers being given a free plant or metro card to encourage them to leave their cars at home in future.
