If you’re a keen Kiwi renovator who is looking to get stuck into your home renovations this summer, the Beacon Pathway’s HomeSmart Renovation project could be just the thing you’re looking for. Beacon is looking for 1,000 enthusiastic homeowners who want to make their homes warmer, drier and more sustainable.

Beacon Pathway is a building industry based research group and is looking to help Kiwis undertake 1,000 HomeSmart renovations in a New Zealand wide pilot project. While renovations will be funded by the homeowners themselves, Beacon is able to provide free, impartial advice on whole house sustainable retrofitting. They can also provide information on financial assistance available through different government programmes.
Beacon’s approach focuses on solutions for the whole house, extending beyond just energy efficiency to include water use, waste management and indoor environmental quality. Sustainable renovations, in addition to things like insulation for the walls, floor and ceiling, and double glazing for windows, can also include measures such as installing low flow water fittings and rainwater tanks.
At the end of the project, Beacon will also provide accurate data so homeowners can see how much energy and water they have saved, as well as how much warmer their homes are.
Beacon are keen to get all types of houses from across NZ involved, so if you’re interested, check out the HomeSmart website and sign up today.
