Carbon Diet Radio Documentary

Hiya,

I am making a documentary for Radio New Zealand which follows my family and i on a 2 week 'Carbon Diet' to measure how much we can reduce our carbon emmisions by and live as sustainably as possible. We currently dont really do as much as we could be doing to reduce our carbon emmisions or live as sustainably as we could so the changes would be dramatic in terms of what we eat, transport, rubbish, home life and giving back to the environment etc.

I was looking to see if anyone is interested in helping us implement the lifestyle changes to help us do this (kinda like a 'personal trainer') or if anyone has any ideas or resources that might be of use.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Anna :)

Hi Anna,

That sounds like a fantastic idea! When is it going to happen, and what part of the country do you live in? I'm sure we can help you find someone (or a team of people) to be your Personal Trainers.

You could start by doing a carbon audit on the first day, then spend the next six days concentrating on six major carbon-footprint areas:
Diet
Transportation
Power
Waste/recycling
Water (not strictly a carbon issue, but an interesting one!)
Shopping/consumption

Then for the next seven days you would implement all the changes and see how it affects your carbon footprint.

Good luck!

Thanks for getting back to me!

Im on the North Shore in Auckland and the 2 week experiment starts on the 6th of October running to the 19th.

Im auditing how we are 'normally' in terms of food bills, what we eat, waste, power, transport and so i have comparison to go by when we do the experiement.

And ive just found out my parents are going to Tauranga for one of the weekends while we are doing it so will have to find a way to offset their carbon someway.....

If you know of anyone willing to help out or tips or hints that would be really useful!

Thanks :)
