Dorothy installs tanks to save money

Dorothy installed two water tanks as part of a major retrofit of her Waitakere home – and now, most of the year, her family manages on tank water alone.

She put in two small 6000 and 2000 litre tanks to slow down stormwater from the section and to conserve water.

“My motivation was mainly environmental, although it saves money as well. I put one underground and put a smaller one under the trees.”

“At the same time I trialled the first model of a new greywater system for our local Council. This takes water from the washing machine and bath and two sinks and flushes two toilets. With regular maintenance, the system has worked well.”

“So most of the year round, with low flow shower heads and faucets and water efficient appliances the three adults in our household manage on tank water alone,” Dorothy says.”
