Hello everyone. First off I just wanted to say ‘hi’ and introduce myself. My name is Andrew and I’m the new friendly face around here (in a manner of speaking). I’m really excited to be involved in this website and to be learning more about living sustainably. I’m also hoping to get to know all of you and help to make this website even better, so please get in touch if you have any ideas or suggestions.
It has been a busy week here at sustainability.govt.nz HQ and we’ve had a great time hearing about all the exciting things people have been getting up to for World Environment Day. But we’re not resting on our (sustainable) laurels! Our intrepid staff have been off spreading the word at Fieldays, the agricultural extravaganza hosted in the mighty Waikato.
According to one of our bold Fieldays agents, who are beaming to us live from Mystery Creek, the audience has been very receptive to the message of sustainability. In particular the ways of being more energy efficient and the considerable savings that can be made from it. Indeed, we’ve had a lot of requests for detailed information on the small but dramatic changes people can make in their lives, which is always encouraging to hear.
Many of the people visiting our stand have already started making changes to their lifestyle. Saving water and energy seem to be the most popular first steps. Some people have even started introducing renewable sources of energy to their homes, such as wind turbines and solar panels.
We’ve also been happy to discover that we’re not all on our lonesome here, with a few other stands approaching the idea of sustainable farm use and living.
If any of you have been to Fieldays, we’ve love to hear your stories too, or if you’re thinking of going this weekend, look us up as we would love to have a chat.
Bye for now.
